300D A/C system.
For a year, I've longed for a 300D tubodiesel, w123. I test drove one last year and it didn't have a working a/c. So I got a quote and the price for a new a/c system was around 700-1k. Long story short, I didn't get the car.
How is the stock A/C systems with these cars? I heard that they aren't that good. With a new A/C system installed, how long would those usually last? i don't have a 300D at the moment, nor the money for one.
Can you tell me some things about the a/c systems on the 123

becoming expensive.
I just had my ac on my 1979 converted to a new system - r134.
I paid 1200- new compressor, freon, new ac hose, expansion valve, and evaporator and labor. My indy service shops part prices were pretty high. Ebay you can get the comp, exp valve, and evaporator around $350.
I really don't feel that much of a difference between the old ac and new. Everything I previously read states the old ac is colder. But its been 2 years since it was last running. And my car is just a weekend car.
