W201 M102 2.0 Engine into W123?
Hi There,
I have a 1982 Mercedes W123 200 that I am currently in the process of restoring. It was purchased with no engine or gearbox.
I am looking for engines and transmissions and the M102 from the W123 is pretty slim on the ground. There are however a lot more W201 190E 2.0 engines around.
Is this engine the same one as was fitted to to the W123? Will it be Carb fed like mine or are the 190E's all injection?
Basically will it be a relatively straightforward fit?! :-)
Lastly I have actually found a car being broken with a Manual Gearbox like mine was originally fitted with. again, will this go in?!
Sorry about all the questions!!
Any advice greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Matt

Hello, vrsmatt99
I will try to answer whatever as much as I can.
for starters the engine fitted on the w201 chassis is different from the ones fitted in the w123 chassis.
I have seen a 2.3 16V swap but its hard to tell for me if it is a plug and play switch. since most of the w201 engines are injections. wikipedia seems to say that there are carburettor versions of the om 102 engine that where fitted in the w201 chassis. Personally I have never seen one so don't know if it is true or not. (as far as I know 190E stands for 190 Einspritsung (= injection))
Basically it probably won't be a straight forward job since you have to switch the computer and such with it. I also don't know if the engine mounts will be compatible. But if you are willing to try it someone once told me you can fit nearly any car engine in the w123 chassis so good luck!
Some personal advice:
In case you never switched an engine before try to have someone help you there is allot more to it then just lifting it out of the car and putting the new one in.
Second if you are doing it to save money don't just buy a 190 if you want those engines.
This question I don't understand.

Thanks for the reply.
I have done a few engine swaps before, so that side of things doesn't bother me too much, I just want to put the same/similar engine back in with as little fuss as possible at the moment! But finding a W123 M102 engine and gearbox for sale is proving a little difficult at present.
As for the other question. My car is a manual (Non Auto) so I was asking whether the manual gearbox from the W201 I had found that was being sold for spares would fit straight into my W123 aswell or whether they are completely different gearboxes.
Thanks again
