Hi - I am very new to this and I am trying to post this to the correct forum. I am not sure how to go about selling my 300D. It is a 1979 body, but I have the receipts etc. from the original owner and the engine was replaced with a 300D turbo (I think it is 1984m OM617.952 - but I have to double check) The current mileage on the odometer for the newer engine is 138999. I have had the car since 2013. It mostly sits in the garage because it's a nice car and I am afraid to drive it because it might get dinged up - especially if I parked it where I work).

It does drive very nice. Sometimes, on sunny days, I will take it out and drive it around or go someplace where I see other people who have nice old cars and just sort of hangout, but I'm just not into classic car stuff. I am a very busy single parent. It does drive really nicely, and is really quite fun, I have driven several 300D turbo of but I am deadly afraid of having it stolen or parts stolen from off of it, so I do not drive it to work or park it on the street for long periods of time. I have driven several 300D turbo's of the same era that my friends and mechanic have had and it's been the best so far.

I had the brakes done and fluids changed at the I acquired it, and the AC has been charged twice since I got it. It leaks very little oil. The Michelin tires on it are very good. I probably have at $7000 or more invested in it. At the time I got it, I was unaware of the following that this car had acquired or anything about it's legendary engine. When I got it, I sort of had visions of turning it into a vegetable oil car or something like that, but after several hospitalizations and severe illnesses, this idea has been purged from my conscience.
I have a bundle of receipts from the previous owner, along with the original manual and I have a workshop manual. It has been kept in California as far as I can tell, so it probably was not exposed to much ice and snow or road salt and the initial owner did not live near the ocean It seems to have had one original owner, up to the time my friend bought it, soon after which I acquired it. The work I have had done on it has been done by a retired Mercedes diesel mechanic who is rather out of the way. Otherwise, I could not afford to bring it to a Mercedes dealer to work on it. It's just too complicated for me and I don't know enough about these cars to be able to properly take care of it. Like I have been told to be careful who changes the oil, what kind of oil, use particular filters, etc. The vacuum tube systems are alien to me.

My older daughter needs a little 4 cylinder car for college that she can take to any local repair shop for oil changes, etc. So she is not wanting the Mercedes either.
I don't know how to advertise it, or where, or how much I should ask for it. So I am hoping that someone can just give me some guidelines and suggestions. I don't really want to post it on craigslist. I would rather try to get it advertised where people who really like this car will see the ad. I have had to rehome a few horses, goats, geese and other animals recently so please excuse the anthropomorphism. But this car needs a home with person who will appreciate it, who understands Mercedes diesel cars, vacuum systems, etc. etc. not someone like me who is afraid they might break it. I am trying to post some pictures. I would love to hear opinions, etc. thanks

I am East of SF/Oakland about 20 miles if that helps. Thanks to all who read and respond!

Mercedes 300D - reciepts with information
I went through the receipts (there are a great deal of maintenance receipts) And this is what I found:
The car is a
1979 300D Chassis 123.230 160282 Engine 617 912 12 082970
At approximately 213685 original miles, the engine was replaced with the following from a 1984 Mercedes 300D turbo engine# 617 952 61795 (chassis number of that car was 123.133 SER 173774.

At the same time,, the rear 3.49 differential was replaced by a 3.07 differential.
All 5 glow plug were replaced in 2009. At the time the engine was replaced, the newer engine had 123,800 miles on it and now it has 138,999 miles. So since 2005, it had only been driven by about 10,000.

In 2013 I had the brakes done andsome other work which was about $800.00 followed by a couple of minor things in2016 – had AC charged, repaired window motor.
The car has only drive about 10,200 since the engine was swapped.
I think that I may keep it for a while, drive it a little more, and just put a sign on it in case a potential buyer is interested in it.
But if anyone can let me know what they think a good asking price would be, I would be most grateful. thank you.
