1982 OM617 Imjection Pump Issue

1982 E300TD I would like to know if this injection pump has a mechanism for increasing the idle during cold start cycle?
I have tried during this cold snap and although the engine starts immediately at 32F, the idle is at 5-600 rpm.
Any help will be appreciated.

No the idle control is not adjustable at the pump------why are you putzing around with the idle.

Thank you Plutoe.
First of all, I am not putzing around with anything.
Second, my question is not about the "idle control." My question is about whether or not there is a fast idle control during the warmup phase of running the engine. A mechanic friend in Germany asked me why the car I was working on did not have a fast idle, apparently because the W123's in his part of the world do have this.
Maybe you are too young to remember cars with carburettors, but back during those times, ALL cars ran between 1400-1800 rpm until the engine warmed up. Some of the carburettors had electric "chokes" and some had "chokes" that were heated from a little bimetal thermostat in the manifold, and some cars had manual "chokes" operated by a cable that came through the dashboard.
So it is perfectly reasonable to ask if this model of injection pump has a "fast idle mechanism" because that is how engines warm up when cold. As you know, newer gasoline cars enrich the mixture electronically and so do not have "chokes" but they achieve the same purpose. I merely want to know if this car should have this mechanism so that if it is there I can get it to work. This particular car has been in storage for quite a while and has very low mileage for its age.

Just Putzing Around

Hi Plutoe:
It appears that Rmac58 disagrees with your response:

If memory serves, the ALDA has nothing to do with cold idle. It controls, in coordination with boost pressure, how much fuel gets dumped into each cylinder. See that clear plastic tube at the 7 o'clock position? If you follow it to the back of the intake manifold, it's there to monitor boost pressure. Often times, the IM end of that tube, or the metal banjo bolt it connects to, gets clogged up with soot and needs to be cleaned. But I digress. Back to the ALDA: Turn it all the way up until you just start to see black smoke under heavy acceleration, then turn it down a touch. Black smoke is unburned (re: wasted) fuel. I'm not positive, but I don't think RMac58 understands what that device is there for.

I don't recall there being a provision for cold idle increase on the diesel aside from the driver's foot on the accelerator pedal.

Does it have knob on the dash that turns to increase idle speed when cold

Swatty: No---I do remember as a youth seeing such idle knobs but if memory serves me right they were all on diesel tractors. I have pretty well verified that this model of engine does not have a mechanism for increasing the idle when cold. Thank you.
