Factory manual A/C controls and compressor

Hey All

I'm interested in this beautiful 280E http://www.californiaclassix.com/garage/c1228.html - I'm curious about the A/C though.

Am I right that the A/C was a retrofit and not a factory setup? I always thought the factory setup would have a button of some sort to turn the compressor on/off (based on my knowledge of the w124 chassis w/ manual climate control) or maybe it just works by turning that dial control next the sunroof switch all the way to blue?

I also remember seeing pictures of w123s w/ factory AC and the compressor looks different too, more like this car: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...-benz-280ce-4/

Thanks!

Yes, it looks like the car was delivered without AC, which was added. I doubt you can call it automatic climate control since it won't know how to regulate fan speed, etc., but it could keep the car cool.
