Mercedes transmission fire

Wasn’t a major fire but it got toasted. Car was being driven and wouldn’t shift when I loaned it out for The Weekend when I get a call that the car was smoking badly about 5 miles from my house fortunately a Good Samaritan tower it to my house but the transmission is probably toast fortunately the engine is good and they didn’t open the hood or else the car would be gone anyway here’s the carnage

Is there any chance That can be fixed

On examination it doesn’t look to bad it is definitely burned on the outside but when I shifted it there wasn’t any hesitation just sounds like metal on metal contact. And well I don’t want to replace a transmission

You won't know what you may have to do until your mechanic opens it up.
