Well it's the right car to fix up but man 60-80 grand for an 11 year old car?? I mean Testarossa's are now in that range.

Reminds me of some of the prices renntech used to push out for certain E cars. It was actually cheaper to buy a 500 than do anything to a 400 or 300 which was available but seemed pointless.

That is a bit steep I agree, But you have to see it in a collectors point of view. W124 the last quality Merc E built, lasting design, low miles, excellent interior & exterior, specially tuned by Brabus(very rare) Worth every penny..

This is how I see it.
If one man has $200,000 to dump on a 60yr old Plymouth Fleetline, why can't another plop $80,000 on a 12yr old mint, tuned Merc?

One man's junk is another man's treasure my friend.

A white E60 RennTech with 120K miles, 60K of which were after the 6.0 conversion, sold on ebay about 6 months ago for $9.5K. It was an E420 of course... These 2 cars listed above are carved from E500's. Is yours an E420 e60benz? How many miles?

Mine's a 400E with 30k miles on the conversion. Hard to believe one sold for $9500, he must have really needed cash. Why would someone spend that much for the conversion and let it go so cheap? I've E420's sell for more...

The car was a little rough, interior wise. It was a dealership that was selling it. A common car like the early 90's 400E/E420 that has $30K in upgrades simply cannot be sold for the upgrade amount plus extra for the car IMHO. A 1989 560SEC with $65K in AMG upgrades cannot possibly sell for $67K. How many miles are on your car? If it has 60-80K miles with 30K on the RennTech conversion, my guess is you'd be looking a long time for a buyer even at $25K...

I find those prices quite high for W124 Brabus. Even if they are both in perfect condition with low mileage, Brabus cars tend is sell at low price used. just look at mobile.de the number of incredible deal you can get with Brabus tuned cars.

Sometimes I think the sellers of these cars don't really want to sell them and figure they'll ask something rediculous just to see if someone bites... much like the real estate market right now, especially here. Anyone ever check out http://www.garagecurrent.com/ ? They have some incredible old AMG's but they are showroom queens and won't move quickly at those prices.

I'm not looking to sell my car, I was just throwing that price out there because of the previous post, however, I have seen several people post here and on other boards about how to get more power and explore turbos and super chargers, etc. Almost every case has them spending $10k+. I have to believe there are more people like me who would rather spend the money on a car that has already gone through the conversion at a reasonable price. I would like to think I could get $25k if I were to sell it. It just takes finding the right person at the right time...a 124 body with close to E55 performance is very attractive to some people.

I agree. I'd love to have your car and will continue to look for one for a deal. Registration and insurance rates for a 1993 400E, but the performance of a W210 E55, (actually about 40 more hp!). I was going to bid on that ebay car but it was 2000 miles away from me and I just couldn't bring myself to buy sight unseen when dropping 10 grand. I'd like to think I could get in the neghborhood of $25 for my car but I think it will take a lot of looking.
