Hi guys,
after quite some time in this forum, giving and receiving advises, meeting friends, finding troubles solved or at least could share it with you, I have sold one of my W124, the '90 260E with 210.000 mile for $ 3,100. The car was in the paper and was sold at 6:30 a.m.!!!! to the first caller. I think this was a good deal after some many miles and years of good service. Actually it passed the German TÜV and Emmission test w/o any upfront repairs.
Now I have spoiled myself with a S-class W220. For the 2 weeks I have it now, I can only say it is a different world driving it. It had to go back to the workshop for some minor adjustments and they gave me C-Class rental, and you wonder how you survived the years not having the S-class comfort. Anyway I will still be checking this W124-forum once in a while, since my wife still is not willing to "desert" her 19 year old W124 260E yet. Actually even this car passed all the stringent German TÜV and emmission tests w/o any trouble.

ex 300E driver
Glad to see you are happy with your new ride. I sold my 300E a while back, and I now drive a Chevrolet Monte Carlo. I invested a lot of $$ in that 300E, and just got fed up with it. The previous owner of the car must have drove it to pieces and then passed the problems on to me. I like my new ride though. Sure, its not an MB, but I really wanted it.

Nice car bamberger_1. You were always one of the people whose advice you could trust.
Ah well, good luck.
Perhaps some of us will join you one day in the W220 forum...

08 Lexus GS350 AWD. 08 Lexus RX350 AWD - wife's. 94 MBZ E320 - still have it.
I've been drooling over an '01-'02 S430 a lot. But what scares me is their incredible unreliability. The latest April issue of Consumer Report just confirmed my fears. I still love the way W220 looks, but I am afraid of it because of its reputation. Keep us posted if you have any quality issues, and good luck to you, man.

I have heard some about reliability, but so far nothing serious. I bought the car (one previous owner) from a MB dealership with an extended warranty. So presently I'm giving them a hard time to fix all the little things popping up. Rattle here, broken plastic part there, smaller issues concerning the so called "comfort electronics"... I think I better do it now, the sale still in the dealer's mind, than later, when they already have forgotten me.
Hope within the next days I discovered everthing and nothing serious shows. Keep my fingers crossed. I have to tell you, the difference between E-Class or C-Class is day and night. Presently the car is in the shop and they gave me a C-Class.....it is only transportation........nothing else.
