Ok, I did it...

...pulled the resistor plug from my 300E, that is. After reading about this in a couple of forums I decided to go for it. I must say there is a definite difference in acceleration and throttle response. No more hesitation or "lag".

If you don't know about this...head over to benzsport.com or mercedesshop.com, look for the thread titled "free horsepower". I don't believe any horsepower was gained...just a manipulation of horsepower.

I did that too, but somehow it ruined my gas mileage. They said it is supposed to increase the gas mileage. That was not the case so I put the resistor back in.

I just did it yesterday...so I don't know how my mileage is gonna work out. i'll let you know.

Now that i think about it my milage will probably go down as I tend to "hop on it" ALOT since removing the plug.

Odd. I might give it a try.

What does the resistor do as of right now anyways. So nothing will happen if I take it out?

Thanks for the link by the way Tony. Can always count on you.

basically it compensates for cheap (low octane) gas. You'll need to use gas that's 91+ octane. I use 91 all the time so it's not a big deal for me. I don't know what you use. Anyway, put a bottle of octane boost in the tank aswell...your car was ment to run on high octane fuel, i.e. 95 octane or higher. They have 100 octane at Shell stations in Germany.

All honesty...no. BUT....I REALLY have been lead footing and racing more than ever....so I have to what to see if MPG goes up AFTER the "newness" of this bores me LOL.

lol i just did the same thing last night and there really isn't any more lag when you step on the pedal....response time is way faster

btw, if i'm only using 91 octane , do i always have to put the octane booster everytime i fill up for gas?

I would say ..yes. Only because my take on it was that you need to be running 92 octane or higher. So I'd have to say , yes.

Have fun!

I've filled up twice since this was originally posted and I haven't put the octane boost in both times and my car is still as responsive as the first time...so I guess you don't need the boost.

I pulled the resistor and ran a tank of 93 octane with a half a bottle of octane booster. I got 21.3 mpg out of that tank, had been getting about 19 mpg. Just filled up with 93 this am, no octane booster. We'll see how this tank does. I personally can't tell a real difference in acceleration, but I do notice that it seems like I have to get on the brakes sooner and harder when coming to a stop, I guess that means I'm going faster than I used to. The car does seems to coast better after letting off the gas, esp. in 4th gear.
