1992 300E
A/C
Chupper,
I have a 1992 300E that used blow hot air all the time. MB dealer gave me a $4200 bill. Took it to a local mechanic checked for leaks-none found. Filled it with 3 cans of freon. Still no cold air. Until MBDOC mercedes mechanic told me my problem was the ACC Mono Valve. Changed it and now no more hot air. The part is cheaper and less labor than compressor. Check that out before you go get a whole new system. Hope that helps you.

New Compressor?
Test your system by having a competent technician put fluorescein dye into it and exposing it to ultraviolet light to reveal where and what is leaking. If you need a compressor, call Rusty at Wholesale Parts in Atlanta at 800-741-5252 and ask him about his rebuilt (in Germany) compressors. If you need a compressor, condensor, etc. convert to R134a (cheap) and tell Rusty you are doing this so he will send the correct type of compressor. You will need to order a new receiver/drier (cheap) also for the new refrigerant. P.

Could be the MAS relay
Chupper,
I had that problem and it turned out to be a the MAS relay, it's located behind the battery and has a black plastic cover which is easily removed to gain access. It's part number 011 545 79 32.

Why compressor? Those older W124s (I used to have '86) were known for the climate control unit failures. That's the push-button thing above the stereo. I had to replace mine. But before doing that, I would hot-wire the electric clutch of the compressor with the engine running and the AC on. If it kicks in and starts blowing cold air after you hot-wired it, then yor compressor is OK, as well as the expansion valve.

If you convert R12 to R134a you need to swap the dryer bottle, the pressure switches on top of the bottle and the compressor oil from mineral oil to esther-based oil. That's all if the other components are ok.

There are a lot of areas of possible causes of failure already discussed. I had another one to add. Check the "KLIMA" relay behind the battery,if the A/C compressor does not kick in, when "hard wired" as proposed. Open the relay and check the printed board circuit path. If one is burnt, you may have the following problem. The wire energizing the clutch of the compressor may be corroded, and or the insulation damaged, and draw to much current, burning the conductor path in the relay. I had this and it cost me a new KLIMA relay, since it burns it in an instand, if the wire down at the electric compressor clutch is not fixed. Just a thought. It's pretty hard to to that point w/o removing the compressor, but with patience and time it works.
