Bumper Mod Idea Thread

In light of the "Which Bumper Cover is This" thread and Ashman's Gen 1 mod, I've done a couple of photoshops to my Gen 2 for some options. The subject pic is old with my old grille, but you get the idea.

Option 1: Open mesh custom
This would be all black mesh running the length of the bumper

Option 2: New AMG style
This would involve some custom fibreglass work for the / \ to be put in then black mesh

Thought, opinions or other ideas? I may do fog lights as well...I dunno yet...

I really like the Option Two idea, but then again I'm still drooling over your bumper. I think if you did option one you would lose the characteristics of the bumper and it'll be to dull. I don't know...that's just my theory.

lots of cars
This summer im going all out on my benz because at the end of the summer im going to paint my car. I want to finish all my exterior mods before paint and for the back im going with an e420 vumper the front is going to get a stainless steel grill like the Bently Continental GT and shave my side moldings and here is a pic of my first prototype bumper. Im going to do at least 3 bumpers and see which one looks best. I have a lot of mods but most im not going to post on here until the car is a finished project. SORRY FOR THE CAM. Wish i still had the splitter on there! this bumper looked soooo good with them

PSHHHHHH My car is going to look like ***** on sunday because i really have no time to do anything to it! Just drive it. Im going to do the interior first then do the outside little by little and it should take about by the end of the summer. I also have to finish my mustang and my wife is going crazy and we had fights about this because i keep buying parts for my stang and my benz! She hates it when UPS comes to the house!

That bumper is too sweet to mess with. I'd leave it the way it is.

Yeah like I had mentioned, I would probably want to add the AMG foglights that were meant for the bumper, in that combo you did....

Talked to my body master and he said the bumper would lose a lot of its structural integrity if I removed all the material. Because the bumper is heavier urethane as opposed to most other fibreglass kits, the solution is going to involve quite a lot of work.

Good Luck! It is really or extra super hard to mold fiberglass around urethane plastic because the bond is just not there (WHERE STRESS IS GOING TO BE APPLIED). I would get a used amg c class bumper and mold some of the accent parts from it but i would not use the bumper you have now. If you can try to find a bumper with damage to it and you can start from there. Im going to make at least 3 different bumpers for my benz 2 urethane and one fiberglass. I just have that one because it is better than the O.E at hitting curbs, dips and whatever you throw at it. DO NOT MESS WITH YOUR GEN1 BUMPER!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!

OMG I JUST HAD AN IDEA!!! IF YOU MOD THE BUMPER HOW YOU WANT YOU CAN ADD SUPPORT BY ADDING A MESH GRILL AND USING METAL STRIPS BEHIND THE MESH TO SUPPORT THE BOTTOM HALF WHICH WILL MAKE YOUR STUCTURE MUCH STIFFER AND KEEP IT LOOKING NICE!

That looks good, I like the splitter and fog lights. I think the finish up the bumper nicely. Can't wait to see the finish product.

I like the second option but I have a tiny change for it. I think it would look a little better with a curve on the top inside and bottom outside of the diagonals. See what I mean here:

Ummm yeah guys, that's what I meant by NEW AMG style

BTW, it's not the C-class that only has that style of bumper....pretty much EVERY AMG car in the 05 lineup looks like it....just slightly different dimensions...

I'd do round fogs in the center of the opening too...that way I'd have a bigger selection to choose from that wouldnt cost nearly as much as the factory AMG ones

The curve would also be done, Chris, I just did a quick chop, thanks for the advice

I've seen I think a 190E with M3 sideskirts and rear bumper on some car on the web...

It also had a c class front end I believe from a w202... and W124 Tails...not 100% sure but I am pretty sure I've seen one. someone will probably remmebr seeing pics of it too.

it just needs the hood to be shaved a bit around the grill its too wide right there. other than that, that car looks good if you ask me...

look at the turn signals! don't they look at little strange to you? If he just goes back to the stock euros and normal hood with blacked out grill then it's all good!
