Amg Fender Spacers
So I installed the AMG fender spacers this Sat. They moved out the front fenders about 1/2". A 1/2" might not seem much but it's pretty noticeable.
Only thing I don't like now is that since the fenders are pushed out the front side panel don't sit flush with the side skirts. I'm going to custom make some Extreme 1" fender spacers see if I can squeeze 19's in & take the side skirts off and have them cusom fabbed wider up front to sit flush with the extended side panels. Sorry I'll post some pics up later so you guys know what I'm talking about. It was pretty late and I was working in the garage.
* Alon or anybody do you guys remember seeing this on any of the AMG W124's (Hammers) The front side panel (protruding) not sitting flush with the side skirts?
I think only the AMG hammers came with front fender spacers or am I wrong?

I just installed half of my spacer kit, and the side skirt seems to fit better with it than without.
I still have to do the front spacer, but the one ont he back part is there and definately I notice a difference.
The spacer kit is sucha simple thing I bet we could fab up some custom ones.
I was thinking I would try thicker as well.....
Got pics of yours?

Alon,
Great minds think alike. I'm definitley going to fab thicker ones. After you finish installing the front spacer and put back the front side panel. I think you'll know what I'm talking about. The front panel will protrude out farther then the side skirts..I'll take pics tonight after I get home from work...

cali and ash,
would love to see pictures. where can i get this kit from? tws? i'd like to know how extensive/involved the installation is on this car. there are so many wheels but most of them come in 8.5" widths and installing these would make it so much easier. thanks

Gawww,
Installation is a breeze. TWs might have them, but either Alon and I will come up with our own One2Four design...Most of the rim styles I liked only came in 8.5's so I know what you're talking about

I had a thought about it Cali, which wouldn;t make it hard. all we need to do is meet up one of these days and find the right stuff to make them with. then I am sure one of us can find a guy to cut and drill them...
I'm sure we can find the bolts easily at a hardware store to work with it too.
We could make varying thicknesses, from 1/2" to 1 1/2" for those that really want to make it wider thought hat may be pushing it....

well my buddy jonny at jonny lightning in placentia does all kinds of custom fab stuff. it would be easy to find the materials and he has all the stuff. i am sure for a few bucks he would do them for you. assuming they are not that expensive at the stealership.

W124's
I was looking at those AMG Spacers at the meet, I'm pretty sure I can find something very identical at Home Depot. LOL
Alon, take the pieces to Home Depot and tell them to find the parts.

Fender Lips

I was curious about how far the upper lip of the fender moves out when you space the two lower edges out with the 20mm AMG spacers. Is there much movement at the top of the fender lip? The spacer seems like a super little trick, but I am hoping to avoid any fender rolling. I am just afraid that bending the fender lip will invite rust troubles that are so common around fender lips on older cars. I would want to bang my head on a wall, if I caused my car to rust prematurely.

Plastic Panel Questions
I should have also asked about removing and reinstalling the plastic panels. Is it difficult for a very careful but very inexperienced body mechanic? What is the process to remove the panels? Is it pulling, sliding back, sliding up, or sliding forward? Are there some kind of clips that break and then get replaced?
What does it look like under the plastic panels? Does it look like a place that should be carefully waxed? Do you think it is worth pulling off all of the plastic panels to be sure everything is rust free under there?

Alon,
I figured out why my front panel sticks out farther then my side skirt. I have the Wald side skirts which are round and roll in more to the body rather then flair out like AMG sideskirts. They're also alot thinner then AMG side skirts which are wider.

ahhhh that explains it.
I think we can go thicker. I was thinking of 3/4" vs 1/2" that it is now...
The tops of the fenders stay the same...
It pushed the bottom out.

Ok Guys,
I got good news. I have new & improved fender spacers. They're available in 3
different sizes.
1) 1/2" original AMG fender spacer size $20.00
2) 1" extreme kit $22.00
3) 1 1/4" super extreme kit. $25.00
You'll be able to run wider tires and bigger rims with these. They're better then the AMG spacers in that 1)the spacers are a mix of poly-rubber & not solid rock hard polyurethane that will dry out and turn brittle.
2) I'm giving them to you at a fraction of the costs. AMG spacers if you can find them will run you inbetween $50-75.
3) I'm including detailed install instructions.
Email me if anybody is interested. If any of you guys can get them yourselves great but don't hijack my thread with smart a$$ comments...

I am a quality manager in a full machine shop. I'll be glad to make a couple sets of custom spacers as long as someone can supply me with pics and measurements of what is needed.
