Brake Bleeding Troubles
Brake Bleeding Troubles I am having trouble bleeding the system in a 92 300E. I replaced the rear brake lines...put my pressure bleeder on the master cylinder...opened the rear caliper bleeder but get nothing but air!!. The fluid level doesn't drop and all I get is air out the rear bleeders, both sides. Somehow the system is getting pressurized with air...but how is that possible if the air pressure is on top of the fluid? What am I missing or doing wrong?

Are you sure the reservoir is full of fluid? Could it be that only the portion of the reservior that has fluid is the part that goes to the front brakes?
Did you put plenty of fluid in your power bleeder?

My power bleeder is just a pressurized cuff that is put over the top of the master cylinder. The key is to insure that the tank is fullfullfull...overflowing almost. There is a small hole at the very top of the tank that connects the 2 chambers (rear and front). This is above the max. level indicator. This allows fluid to get into the rear system and be bleed. What a stupid design....oh, well...what else can we expect from LUCAS .....(prince of darkness). So, yes the ABS system can be bleed.....but make sure the tank is full. You can then use the old "pump, hold and close" system using the brake pedal ( 2 man job) or a power bleeder.
