My check engine light just came on a week ago or so and was intermittent. I was going to call the shop tomorrow about it but the car actually died on me en route home from work today.
Typically the first thing to check is the 02 sensor.
I guess the book is right when it says bring it to the shop as soon as possible...blah

Don't Overfill the Gas Tank
When filling up, don't top off. Also, make sure the gas cap is reinstalled properly. If you did top off, or the gas cap was loose, the light will shut off in a few days of driving (or so I've heard).

not on the 124s, they wernt that smart yet
