Surging cruise control

When the cruise control is set on my 1990 300e, the engine revs seems to surge very lightly. The speedo needle is a little jumpy up to 30mph and then its rock steady. When the cruise is set the speed / speedo remains spot on. I have lubricated the linkages and the engine idles correctly.

I have only just bought the car and I have just replaced the cruise control amplifier as the system orginally did not work at all.

Can anyone offer any advise or is the surging normal. (normally on a flat straight road)

When the throttle actuator starts to go out, the cruise control starts acting up, too, just like you described.

I've noticed this a not-so-unusual repair.

You might want to take it to your mechanic to get it checked out.

Unfortuanately it's an expensive part - about $1,000.00
