The Becker Grand Prix cassette/radio

One of the weakest parts of a Mercedes is one of the easiest to correct. Donate your ancient technology radio to a cylindrical container and replace it with a Compact disc/radio for very reasonable money! Remove the ashtray and depress the two metal tabs along the bottom. The radio slides out! Any aftermarket Asian-made radio (all) will fit perfectly and drive the horrible-sounding, paper-faced o.e. speakers. These should be replaced with coaxial speakers the same size as the old ones. Rear 5" speakers are usually held in place by clips. Remove these and place a bead of silicone around the edge of the cylindrical mount. Gently press the new speaker onto the silicone and replace the grilles. Four inch speakers will fit under the front grilles. At this point you will have a four ohm system that sounds fantastic! You can even get a CD head unit that has an output for a ten disc changer! Many of us have a prize Mercedes that is fantastic in many ways but we are afraid to upgrade the audio system. The civilized world has been listening to music from CD for over twenty years!! Where does cassette tape fit? Update and appreciate in this lifetime! P.
