locking doors...
locking doors...
Ok i was coming home from picking up some food and i turned off the car and turned off the headlights ( turning both knobs to the left to its upright position ) and all the doors locked themselves... Is there a trick about the car that i still don't know? i always drove around with the doors unlocked.
There are a few features of the W124 that a surprising number of people don't know about (even those who have owned them for years!)
So, did you know......
Holding the key in the lock position closes all the windows and sunroof.
Holding the key in the unlock position afterwards opens all the windows.
Turning the key all the way clockwise when locking the boot isolates it from the central locking.
When the boot is open pulling the switch turns off the boot light (later models only, I think).
Turning the trip reset dims the dash lights.
It's possible to check the computer's fault codes using an LED and some wire (handy for fault finding, later models only)
With the engine running and the car stopped, putting the gear lever into '2' then back to 'D' forces the box to start in first gear.

hmm i knew a few of those. but i did that while still in the drivers seat. taking the key out of the ignition and turning off the lights... i think it has happened once before but i was with someone else and i didn't want to ask if they did something.
umm, mine doesn't do those. It may be later models only. mine is an 87' 300e. i attempted it on the driver side door when it was locked. i held it and nothing happened.

OLD THREAD ALERT...
I was wondering if any of you know if it is possible to hook up a keyless system on these cars. I took it to an alarm place and they wouldn't do it being an MB so I was just wondering if anyone here has done it.
Also, any tricks to getting the locking feature to work from the passenger side? I can lock and unlock all doors from the driver's side but not the passenger's side.
As an aside, the closing/opening windows/sunroof trick doesn't work on my '92. I know it works on the w211 and the w208.

Yes, you can hook up a keyless entry system....my car has it...and it was installed by an indy MB shop.
I don't think any of these cars allows you to lock/unlock the doors from the passenger side...only the drivers side and the trunk.
My car ('95) allows me to roll up/down the windows and close the sunroof using the key.

My car allows me to lock and unlock from the passenger side as well as the trunk and drivers side. The key turns more smoothly with less effort on the passenger side but thats probably because the drivers side is gummed up.
Mine does the locks from the passenger side, Though I heard if you do it with your valet key while your car is still running that it will mess up the welds on your fuel pump much like having subs that are too large.

I dont know cant try them my cars at the Dealership atm -_-
