'Wet' Idle
When I start up my '95 E300D after it's been raining for a while, oftentimes the car will idle at about a 25% higher RPM. The RPMs stay there when I put the car in gear and usually subside only after 20 or so minutes of driving. At no other time -- other than when it's been raining -- have I noticed this phenomenon.

Distributor cap, rotor
How is your distributor cap/rotor? Have you ever replaced these?
your wires may be worn/cracked, and the distributor tends to act a little funky when moisture seeps in...this may be the reason as to why it idles funky when it rains.

Never seen a Diesel with Cap and Rotor or even Ignition wires. 
What is the ambient temperature where you live? On my diesel it idles high whenever it is cold in the morning, I notice this under 80F.
