steering issue... whats wrong!?
Hey,
Yesterday my car started a really bad squeak when I steer.. It sounds like a badly lubricated door hinge (that "eek" sound).. The noise also appears when I go over a bump...
My guess is the ball joint but not so sure yet..
Any ideas? Oh it had been raining really hard in my area if that helps at all..
My car is a W124 E220 (facelifted).. with 55000 miles on the clock..

Ive been getting the exact same thing in '90 300E whenever it rains for more than a day or two. Keep us informed on what the problem is because I want to get it fixed before going on a road trip next month, and it would be good to know about how much it costs.
Also, I was thinking of doing a facelift to my baby as well. About how much did yours put you back altogether? It looks beautiful btw.

hey mate.
my car is booked in on the coming Tuesday as I am away on vacation at the moment.
I will let you know what the problem is, and the costs involved. Friends of mine had suggested ball joints or bushings. Since my front shocks are on the way out (Well I guess they are), I might change all the bushings and ball joints as well as the front shocks all at once. However I don't know yet.
One thing to note is that I live in Hong Kong and, although the costs of parts may well be similar, there is a notable difference in labour costs. I will let you know anyway.
Last thing, my car is bought as a facelifted W124. My father was the first owner and he bought it once Mercedes released the facelift
(He used to have a pre-facelift 124 too 
).. Anyway, thanks for your compliments on the condition of my car!
