Problem with 300TE

Guys I need a bit of an opinion. When I take off from standstill with our 300TE it sometimes has a small hiccup in taking off and it feels like the transmission is slipping slightly with a slight jitter. Once it engages it is fine after that. I want to take it to my mechanic to have a look at it but I was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem.. I probably notice it more when I am on steep hill and taking off...

Whats' your mileage? Could be the tranny is on its way out and you are noticing it slipping early...

How's the fluid and filter? Fresh enough and full enough? Try synthetic tranny fuild (I use Redline ATF in my 500E) ....made a noticeable difference in smoothing out the shifts. I realize MB doesn't recommmend anything other than their own stuff but in my case....it is a good thing with good results.

There's also a controlling valve body on the tranny...that my be going bad too...they do, espeically at this vintage.

hmmm....

Well I have 300Te as well, with 210K on the clock. I have only noticed my car doing what you describe when at cold temps.

I ALWAYS let my car warm up so that it sits right on the middle of the temperture marker, and it runs perfect this way but if I run it, say if only warmed up 3/4 of the way there, it will hickup like a ****!

do you run your car cold?

Thanks for your help...Our 300TE is close to 250000km now. I had the transmission fully serviced about a year ago and have never had trouble with it before. I can't say it happens every time because I only drive it on the weekends and notice only sometimes...I drove it all day Sunday and it was fine...I just hope its not the start of transmission problems....It also doesn't matter if its cold or hot....

I rechecked the transmission fluid this morning again, with the car in park and running and the fluid was slightly down. I topped it up but haven't driven it. Hopefully thats all it was...

you know, u have to check it once the transmission is fully warmed up to get a accurate reading....... and it doesn't warm up at the rate of the car FYI
