wheel size/ET HELP???

Hello,
This is my first post so hello to everybody...
I have read all of the w124 posts here (i hope) and for the life of me can't find a straight answer about wheel, tire size & the correct ET for our w124's.
I have a 90' 300e and I'm about to upgread to a larger set of rims. Right now my car has H&R springs with a 1.5 drop. Fenders are not rolled "yet" and I want to upsize from my 17" 225*45*17 to maybe a 18" wheel. I would like to get something with a lip on it maybe 1-1.5" or a AMG style rim and need help with the fitment.
I called tire rack and he said that a 18" would fit but a 215 tire is not ideal, the smallest he would go is a 225...
What would be the right ET for a 18*8 wheel and is it ok to go with a 215?

Thanks so much,
Lesko

18x8 eta 35 on 225/40's should be fine. You might rub a little up front, every car is different. If you do just roll the front fenders. I'm running 215's on 18x8.5's I wouldn't recommend it as my car is not a daily driver.

same spring setup as you. h&r with bilstein sports. running 18x8 et35 right now on 225/40/18. front passenger side rubbed like crazy, chewing up most of the sidewall. but once i rolled it, it was perfect. i think you can go 18x8.5 et35 in the back but would roll to just in case. 18x8 et35s back there with full load (2 friends, 2 12's, crapload of stuff from costco, and a pitbull) and the unrolled fenders clear fine.

One last question, could somebody explain to me the way fitment works? is it the lower the ET# the closer the rim will be to the car?

Thanks,
Lesko

lots of cars
ok here's the deal! 0 offset means wheel face is in the center a positive offset moves the wheel more in and a negative offset moves it out. Tires like 225/45/z17 the first number means the width the second means the height of the side wall and 17 means the size of tire also the letter means the temp rating or type of tire. Some cars need more offset or more negative so they don't rub on the outside fender or rub on the shock. Some people stretch out a tire so it won't rub on the outside fender.

DO NOT RUN A REALLY LOW PROFILE BECAUSE YOU RUN THE DANGER OF HITTING A STRETCH OF FWY THAT HAS A CRACK ON THE ROAD AND THE RIMS OR TIRE FOLLOWING THAT LINE LIKE YOUR RIDING ON RAILS AND MAKING YOU LOOSE CONTROL LIKE YOUR RIDING ON RAILS! THIS HAPPEND TO ME ONCE BUT DIDN'T GET IN AN ACCIDENT.
