Questions about 87 E260
Alright, I am a born and raised bimmer boy. I have always liked the Mercedes Benz but one has never been in my family. I have gotten some information from a friend of mine that her father is going to sell his 1987 E260 and I have some questions about it. What are some chronic problems with the car?
How long does the transmission last on average?
What is a good price for a meticuliously maintained E260?

260E , 1989 (for now)
I own a 1989 260E with only 224,000k on it. I had it since 1994.
This car never stopped amazing me. It is solid, ride like a Benz, cruise all day at insane speed. Road handling is solid, safe and very stable and quiet.
It is a slow dragster but will insult some BMW at high speed.
The engine is bullet proff. Never had a transmission problem.
Common problems: oil consumption around 100,000K= Valve seals, maybe valve guides. Head gaket at about the same mileage. Some elctrical gremlins (switches) accessories. Brake last about 40,000K (in my case)
Body is solid, rust proff/resistant, no rattles. Overall, an excellent car.
Don't know too much about prices but I'd be surprised if a 1987 exceeds $5,000. Good luck
