I have an '95 E420. For te past couple of weeks the transmision is shifting rough when the engine/transmision is cold. After that it's fine. Need advise how to fix the problem.
Thank you.

check the fluid level and change the filter. Check the level after you got off a freeway and your tranny is warm enough. make sure all the vaccum hoses from the engine are connected right and not cracked.

Yes, check the fluid. What is the service history for the transmission? Does it get regular fluid and filter changes every 30K?

"With selector lever in postion "D" or "3", upshifting from 1st to 2nd to 3rd gear is delayed depending on vehicle speed and engine temperature. This allows the cat. converter to heat up more quckly to operating temperatures. During the brief warm-up period this delayed upshift and increased engine noise might be perceived as malfunction."

if the car shifts rough only when cold, you might check your drive train flex disc. This is a rubber doughnut looking piece that connects the drive shaft to the tranny and rear end. It helps to cushion the initial "clunk" of torque when you put the car in gear. If you get a kind of "double shift" when you move the car from P to D when cold, this could be your problem.
