1987 300 CE imported 2 years ago from Germany.

Yes it has to be DOT approved and you have to change all the windows and have an air bag and meet all the requirements from the BAR and DMV. I did all this when I got my 230e (4cyl) from canada (don't ask why i got it) 
. Anything in the U.S that has a DOT logo on it needs to be changed on the canadian model.
OH AND THE ONE THAT IS GOING TO KILL YOU IN CALI IS SMOG!! Trust me i had to go thru this for 2 years on my grey market car.
I'LL BE A BEOOOTCH UNLESS THE CAR WAS IMPORTED FROM THE U.S TO CANADA.

Anything can go to canada but from canada to the U.S Pshhh don't even try it.
There is a way to get it smogged and do it the ghetto way but if you get pulled over by the cops then it's your A$$!
