300d turbo

I just bought a 300d with 170k. the car is super clean and dosent seem to have any problems. i have been into 190s for the past few years and have moved up a notch in the eclass line b/c ive been looking for a diesel. are there any recomendations for things i should look for and service at this point?

I am not sure in regards to diesels, but if you check www.mercedesshop.com there is a great diesel section with lots of die hard diesel people who can help you out with anything of a technical nature...

The cars are pretty problem free. I would check for service records, regular oil changes, see if the glow plug coils were changed, A/C repairs (expensive!).
The only problem I have had is the A/C condensor. Other than that, the car has been rock solid and generally problem free because of regular maintanence. Good luck with your purchase. You will like the fuel economy.

at 3.25 a gallon does it still get get better mpg?

Its funny, when I was down in Texas, I couldnt believe my eyes, Diesel was more expensive than premium! Here in Canada, it is generally 5-10 cents per liter cheaper than regular gasoline. For example, on our 87 300D, it costs me about $48 to fill up right now, and I can easily go 800KM to a tank. On our E320, it costs about $85 to fill up, and I can maybe go 800KM.
Im not sure if it was just in Texas that the price of diesel was more than gasoline. Is it like that everywherein the US ?

hey!........ thats the first benz i owned.mine was an '87 with 76k and i traded it at 99k for the E320 i've had for the past 5 years. back then my car was recalled for the trap-oxidizer to be replaced free,which made it quicker and smoother.also the a/c manifold went bad.$$$$$$$
check the glow plugs.......and the engine mounts....
also keep changing the fuel filters....theres 2 of them..thats a really simple job, and makes the car feel like new..best $7 you'll ever spend

I drove the car home (a little over 200 miles) It seems fine. Things i that i know which need to be addressed: alternator, the rear suspension feels a loose, prob going to replace all the old rubber, i think the universal is shot? when car goes from 1-2 2-3 can feel clunk around the rear of the car. Any ideas? the car is immaculate and has 170k i have a handful of records nothing too extensive. i think the car has sat for a while so im going to change the trans filter and fluid, give it an oil change and change the fuel filters like reccomended. I'll post some pics when i get a chance
