Fuse C16 - auto door lock gone
I have yet to have any electrical issues with my E320 (knock on wood).
However, yesterday in the morning, I was driving her to work, and stopped at a set of lights. All of a sudden the radio stopped sounding, but looking at the radio face it was on (stock radio). The light above the rear view mirror started to flash, and so did the seat belt warning lights (my belt was buckled). I found it strange.
I pulled over, thinking that a 'reset' would take care of it, and turned car off, and then back on. At this time, when I unlocked the car, I noticed that it only opened my door, and the automatic door locks failed to work. Now I'm really worried, as I need gas at some point, and have no idea how else to open the locked gas door.
Came home later that day and while thinking about it for a few hours, I figured the easiest thing to check was the fuse box. Checked my Owner's manual, and located the correct fuse. Indeed fuse C16 controls all of the functions mentioned above. It seems that somehow it was still in place, however not making direct contact. Once I wiggled it a bit, it was all back to normal.
That probably saved me a trip to the dealership, and a $100 charge.
On a side note, I always believed that my car had an alarm, albeit the passive type, and not until yesterday did it ever go off. Somehow during the testing I locked the car with the hood open. Once I moved the hood door to close it, it started to beep at me. Now I now for sure.
On another side note, I have finally made the decision to install a remote starter/remote door lock/new alarm system. Does anyone have any recommendations as for brand name that they have used and like?
Thanks.
