1986 300e cuts out

Hi all- my problem is that my 1986 300e starts and runs fine, but randomly the car just cuts out while driving. For example today it was fine or about a half-hour of driving, then it just cut out on the highway. I put on my flashers and a couple of times it started and then cut right out again. THen after about 5 minutes it was fine again. Has anyone ever experienced something like this? Any help or suugestions ar appreciated.... Thanks, Chris

it could literally be anything.

you need to be more aware of when it happens, if its after you go through a puddle, when you turn left, when someone drops a coin in the salvation army bucket etc.

start with teh most basic things.
get new plugs, new filters, new plug wires and a new distributor cap and rotor.

from there you can do things like check teh OVP, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump, alternator, etc etc etc.

look for loose ground wires as well.

more info

It is totally random...no rhyme or reason. Sometimes it just doesn't start. Could the Overload relay cause a no spark condition? Thanks again, Chris

Don't replace them unless you are sure or their just old. Also if you just start replacing parts it's going to be VERY expensive.

NO IT CAN'T!

ok long time not posting on the forums but im back. Starksthree.......IT'S YOUR FUEL PUMP RELAY.....If it's bad it will turn on and off at anytime...anywhere.....also does it make a big buzzing noise when you turn on the car.....if it does then changed it....

First read about what the parts actually do before replacing them.

300E Fixed

...It was the crankshaft position sensor that was causing the intermittent cut out....
