Suspension Question

For a few months now, I've been hearing this clunking noise coming from the back of my '93 300TE 4M. It doesn't happen all the time. Sometimes on bumpy turns and bumpy roads. All the time over speed bumps. This car has the self-leveling rear suspension. I did some research and came up with the accumulators as a possible cause. Has anyone had a similar experience? If it is the accumulators, are these expensive to fix? Does that mean the shocks have to be replaced? The car has 60K miles on it.
Thanks

Look for looseness where the "shocks" actually mount.

Thanks.
This might be a stupid question but can said loosness be detected while car is on the ground or I have to jack it up? Should I just pull on the shock back and forth?
Thanks again.

i have the same noise coming from back right side and it come's and
goes . i check for leaks when the car was on lift, and there is no leaks.
i think also that the problem is a bad accumulator.(there is only one accumulator)

what is the accumulator part nr.? and where can i buy it?

Thanks

I've bought other parts from motorcarsltd.com (click the "online catalog" link). They have it listed for $97. It's just a matter of installting it.

Actually, I just spoke to the parts guy at the MB dealership and he said there are two (2) of these accumulators, and not one, on the car. He said they are $139 a piece.
Still wondering if anyone out there can confirm if they are indeed the source of the clunking noise. The shocks have no leaks and should be good at only 60,000 miles.
