Are all rwd rear ends the same?

I have a 87 124 td sedan. My rear end is making a bit of noise. Are all 124 rear ends the same? I know the 4wd version might be different. Thanks in advance.

no

1) depending on the model, they will have different rear end ratios.

2) some are limited slip, and will have slightly different housings. usually wider.

but the basics should be the same. the housing will be the same pretty much across the line. internally they will mostly be the same (gearing aside of course)

some had a 3.27 others a 3.06 and 400e and 500e had different. 500e 2.82 and 400e had 2.32 or something.

also some had lsd and some did not.

Not sure on what the diesels have. look at your diff housing it should have the ratio stamped on it.
