lots of cars
Please don't tell me you want to add 22's and that's the reason u want to raise it. If you have a stock suspension i think that's as high your gonna get.

I live in Karachi, Pakistan, where the roads are beyond pathetic. There are pot holes and speed bumps all over the city. The muffler and probably few other parts of the body are always grinding against the these bumps. Specially if I have two big bodies sitting in the back.

I am attaching pictures of my 124, as you can see it rides very low, which normally is a good thing but I really don't want to subject it to the grinding that it goes thru every day on the roads of Karachi.

So whats the best way to get it up? I will settle for 2 inches if 3 is not possible.

Cheers

oops..here are the pics..

you may need to get custom springs and longer shocks, but you may be able to use springs from a v8 model which may raise it more. and ue the thickest spring pads.

1-bump, 2-bump, 3-bump, 4-bump

Bilstein Heavy Duty shocks may help your situation. They have been known to increase the ride height on many owners’ vehicles. At the very least, they should help support the weight of passengers.

For the spring pads, just check under your car to count the little bumps on the ones you have now. The little bumps are at the lip of the rubber cup that sits on top of your springs. They can be hard to see, if they are rotated in toward the suspension, but you should be able to find them if you look carefully. If you do not have 4-bump pads, then you should be able to add a little height to the vehicle by increasing to 4-bumps. The pads come in 5mm increments and a change of 5mm (1-bump) in the pad can translate to about 7mm at the fender lip.

Yeah definitely the 4 bump pads while switching out any shocks. You might get more than 7mm each though. I had switched 2 bumps down in the rear and it was more like 11mm each at the fender on mine... depends on what you have to start with though. I had 3 bump OEM.

Yeah, bumping the pads and switching to Bilstein HD's might just do it for you -- or at least make a difference.

anyone ever mention going back to STOCK tires? they have a much bigger sidewall to soak up the nasties.

addtionally a longer shock shouldnt really do anything since they are made to be compressed and NOT HOLD UP THE CAR. if you wanted to be a pimp you could order some custom king offroad shocks with nitrogen bypass.

He has an e220 which is a 4cyl car. if he put in springs designed to accomodate the v8 model which is a heavier engine, I would think that would raise the car up. Longer shocks would be if he was able to even find some.

And the statement that shocks do nto raise a car up is BS, I put bilstein hd shocks on my car and my car does sit a bit higher than before I put them in.

So they do help raise the car a bit, but the springs combined with shocks raise the car. probably because the shocks have a stiffer compression so they don't compress as much as a softer shock will which in turn in effect raises the car.

before I put in my bilstein hd shocks, I couldn't even fit my pinky between the rear tire and the fender lip, since I installed them I can put my middle finger inbetweent he tire and the fender lip.

First of all thanks to everyone for great suggesstions. I think I have few options, springs, shocks and bump stops, perhaps even a combinition of all.

I think I will start with bump stops and springs first and then take it from there, and change the shocks if need be.

And to NorCal124, I do have a truck. Its a land rover defender 110 (-: and oddly enough it rode too high and hard and I had to put softer springs to lower it and soften the ride.

Cool, Sajidd.

Make sure that you let us know what you find out and what you eventually end up doing -- and how you like the difference.

Clay, I will for sure keep you informed. But it will be a while before I make the change as right now I have got my hands full with with my land rover defender that I am modifying to make it more comfortable for city use.

If the street are as bad as you say they are and you wish to preserve the condition of you Mercedes you might want to use your defender more. I go shooting a lot and I frequent an outdoor range that requires me to travel a dirt road to gain access to. I wouldn't even think of ever using my mb in that sort of a situation but rather use my 4wd van.

Hehe, good one.

I have HD's on my wagon now, but I really would like to have mine with a lifted look as well, make it more of an allroad style, would it be possible to use an airbag system, this may solve all of the problems with one solution. I have heard that those systems ride very nicely and it would give a w124 owner the leveling ability of an old 300 w108 drop it for show and raise it for go.
As soon as i can afford it i am going to look into this more seriously, i think air ride makes some universal air bag kit for around $2k?
