Head Light upgrade

I have a 92 400E I want to put new head lights in. I saw the post below from E500 but can't get a good feel for the new look with that grill....it looks like a Bentley. Does anyone have pics of the W124 with upgraded headlights? Thanks

Nice lights 2phast! you used the w202 headlights, painted the inside body color and retrofitted some projectors... Are those projectors Bi-Xenons ? If so, from where did you get them? i remember someone putting some projectors in what seemed to be some bosch euro lights. Looks fine. I think the crystal clear corners would look better with that. Do you have more pictures? I would love to see more!

While on my excavation to find new things for lights, i came upon this... anybody know how this was done to the headlamps? Not the projector retrofit, but like the polish to make it clear.

edit : image wouldn't show up.. here is the url.

Actually my headlights are W124 specific and these are also made for the W202 as well. The projectors are from a newer E-class, Bosch projectors, bi-senon, although I don't have the bi-xenon function working just yet. As you know, when you turn on the high beams, it turns off the low beams, so my high beam signal moves the bi-xenon shield but then the burners turn off, so I still need to install some relays and diodes that will supply current when I hit the high beam switch.

I have some crystal clear corners that I need to take apart and paint the inside reflector (Red) hopefully those will turn out well.

The other W124 pictured has probably the best HID retro I have ever seen. As a matter of fact, this guy has done some other incredible mods to his W124, his HID retro is what motivated me to do mine.

Here is his site http://kamran185.tripod.com/

Here is his Xenon install in English

BTW, all of my vehicles are here

Plenty of pictures and how-to's

Woow!
the best W124 headlights i've ever seen ...
  • they look so nice and so "original"

  • i like your headlights 2PHAST ,but you can not put HID on this plastic cover .. it'll burn it.

  • the http://kamran185.tripod.com guy is really CREATIVE ...
i do not know how did they do the grinding gob to the glass covers!!
    he says:
I had to send stock headlight glasses to Germany for grinding work (It took two months).

    Where is that company??

The glass lenses were sent to Hella and they were grinded and polished. Cost something like $400 to have done

As for my headlights, there are no problems with using projectors in them, nor are there any heat realated issues, even after 6 hour of them being on, the plastic lenses are cool to the touch.

The warnings you saw were related to installing bare HID's into these headlights and is a statement being made by the seller, not by the manufacture, which, btw I contacted before I purchased mine.

These are cheap headlights though, no where near the quality of Bosch or Hella.

The picture i posted was on 500ecstacy on the same thread as 2Phast's projector retrofit. Projectors can be placed on any project as long as the headlight cover is clear without anything bothering it such as the regular euro headlights. The problem would be that the light would not be clearly projected onto the floor and may blind oncoming cars, which won't make the police too happy. What this person has done ( which was different than that russian website ) was polish the inside to become smooth without any obstruction and just retrofitted another projector ( who knows from where ) and mounted it on the euro headlights. The headlights appear to be hella ( to my view ) and HID's can be placed in this situation because the headlight lens has been polished down to where there is no obstruction which might causes the light to not go straight. The problem with hid is that some lenses have to be built for HID just like the stock w210's and just like the new mercedes with the crystal clear headlights. Like he said earlier, anything can be done, it just depends on how much money you want to spend. You can get some cheap halogen projectors and just retrofit them in, but i don't think it would be worth the money. The best projectors i have seen some from a Lexus ls series... i forgot which but there is a thread over at www.hidplanet.com. That website offers a lot of information. Another person known here on mbworld for lights is Zam2000. You may want to call him if you want to have a retrofit done. The eastiest would be to get the w202 styled lights ( as 2Phasts has) and just mount the projectors in there.... Good luck! Hopefully you can make sense of this, i dont' feel like proof reading this... its just a forum! and go ahead and question more if you like. Ill post the url as to where i got the picture from later on.

Ok, sorry guys, my mistake, the blue mercedes pictured is not the Russain guys car whose link I posted. I have not seen the dark blue car before, nor any write up about it.

Both are well executed

Several people have taken their glass lenses to local glass shops and asked that the center section be grinded/polished smooth. From what I have seen, the results were good

Rik, I just finished reading your write up about how you did it.

thanks for sharing it. I'm going to look into it and perhaps buy another set of smoked Euro's for my car and use those to retrofit the bi-xenon's.

Impressive job's with the lamps, guys. I was thinking of upgrading the lamps to xenon in my 124 convert', but I'd prefer to get aftermarket assemblies made especially for the 124. The idea of buying projectors than cutting up the original assembly isn't exactly pretty.

I'm looking to do the same thing for my 463, but then again, there aren't any aftermarket parts designed especially for the 463, so I'm stuck.

either way, impressive work guys.

The W124 never had a HID option from the factory and there is no after market units either, so you either slap HID burners into your existing headlights or you retro projectors into them.
