help! car is leaking liquid!
my 400E runs fine and everything, but when i turn, i makes this horrific sound!! and it's leaking red oil underneath. right beside where the wheel sits and th bottom.. people being telling me that should be tranny oil, but then i dun see a connection between that and my powersteering problem!
any insights?

do NOT just use atf, buy the proper steering fluid from the dealer in this case.
power steering pumps on m-119 V8 engines are prone to leak at the hoses-very common.
the pump itself can leak too.
this is not a cheap fix, the local stealership wouldn't rebuild my pump. i had to buy a new pump and hoses, about $700.00 installed.
btw you will need your vin to get the right pump, there are 9 different ones!
when you fix this don't forget to replace the filter, only a few dollars.
do a "search" at mercedesshop and 500Ectasy.com for power steering leaks, educate yourself before you reach into your wallet-knowledge is good!

A couple months ago my power steering was make noises when cold at start-up, but I changed the fluid and filter and it and no more noise. The fluid that was in mine must have been original because it looked the coffee with creamer in it!

Power steering pump rebuild
It appears to take a few special tools that are inexpensive and a way to press out certain seals. I would certainly attempt this to save $400.
