Please help should there be a plug in the intake?

Please help should there be a plug in the intake?
Hi everyone-

Sorry for the multiple postings.

In the 89 300E, the air intake housing, is held down by four bolts, and has a hose coming out the top. There is also a hole in it that looks like maybe there should be something there, but i dont think so.-- However, its not my decision.

If anyone could shed some light on this i would be extremely grateful. Going for a long trip and i dont think it should be plugged...

It's the air filter housing and the hole through it is normal--access to an adjustment screw.

lol, that's what i thought. Does that mean that no air can enter the filter through the hole?

So it doesnt matter if its plugged or not?
