Mercedes benz 1991 300ce(RIP), now an 89 300ce
fuel gauge way off

i have always been under the impression that my 300ce had a 16.5 gallon fuel tank, due to the fact that whenever i fill it up after the light has been on for a while i usually get about 15 to 16 gallon in it. from looking at the manual i realized i had an 18.5 gallon tank. i tried to run the tank out and got 50 miles with my low fuel light on and then decided to fill it up. i go to fill up my tank and still only got 16.2 gallons in there. my fuel gauge was very low when i filled it to. this means that my gauge is 2.3 gallons off approximately. is the tank really 18.5 gallons or did i figure something wrong? if my gauge is off, is there a way to fix it? thanks

my car has 60 miles in the reserve and fills up 16 gallons or so. Unless the ce is different, I wouldnt this there is a problem. Try to look up how big the tank is on my 86 300 and then you can compare if your info is accurate.
