Car does not come equipped to work with aftermarket stereos. You need a $15 adapter cable.
All radios today are 4-channel, but OE radio in W124 was 2-channel.
Output from OE radio goes to console fader, then to 4 speakers on your early W124, which are metric sized.
Most new radios have fader built in. You either have choice of running a pair of outputs to the console fader or figuring out how to separate the speaker wiring from the OE fader and connecting it all directly to the new radio. There is a blanking plug available should you decide to bypass oe fader.

lots of cars
Well you can run the two front speakers thru the fader and connect the 2 rear speakers directly to the stereo also you don't need a wiring harness just tap in to the brown, grey, and red wire i think?....brown is ground , grey is ignition, red is batt....
