Very Boring Spring Break, Blacked Out Grille

I blacked out the grille on my dads E320 wagon with some electrical tape (i suck at photoshop and wanted to see the real thing) just wanted to get some opinions on it, me and my dad cant make up our minds on it yet. if we were to do it not sure about blackin the trim as well. The chrome on the grille is gettin kinda bad, pretty oxidized, just tell me what ya think good or bad, just want real opinions. Thanx.

Ps its so dirty but cant wash the car at home and have been to lazy to go to a carwash. plus the grille insert is begging for a repaint, (cross country trip killed it)

yeah thats the problem i was havin with it. Does anyone out there have a pic of a green W124 with a green grille, i think ive ween a hammer coupe with a green grille but it was a pre-facelift model. i wonder how it would look with a green grille surround and mouldings. i also dont mind the black i just think it may clash with the lower valece color. hmmmmm?

1990 300ce
yeah, don't do that, man. My 300ce is smoke silver (champagne) and I have considered doing similar things to it. But it would look terrible!

how much would a new chrome grille cost? Maybe if you want to make it look more sporty, you should update the grille insert with the S-class style one.

No....no....no.....looks like crap, with that tone of green, it does not bode well at all.

hey what are you going to do about that bumper? i have a cheap idea i can tell you but you need to know how to use fiberglass....ohhh by the way you need to paint the chrome grill the color of the car and add the chrome strips in the middle....im going to try something never tried on a mb grill but i will post pics if it comes out right.....

Thanx for all the help. I think we may just wait on a 600 style grille and once a little more money starts comin in (moving sux up cash) get a new Bumper (thats what a truck tire carcass did on our last cross country move). and maybe eventually go monochromatic. Just dont know how much longer we've got with her (almost 230K mi but still going pretty strong). So whats this idea,LOL i have some basic glassing skils, not that great but would love to hear the idea and cant wait to see this breakthrough new grille.

Leave the chrome, but paint the insert itself black.

Thats what I would do on that color car.

W124
I would leave the outer part chrome but just paint the grill fins. I did that on my old grill.
