Exclamation Rims Question---->Help : )

When talking about rims, i see and hear many mention the word "offset.
I hear the perfect offset after rolling the fenders is 38mm. What does "offset" mean (in lame man's terms)?

Offset is simply the distance from the mounting surface to the center of the wheel. So, a wheel with a 38 mm offset has the mounting surface 38mm off of center.
