I would stay away from Erebuni kits.

Take Alon's aka Ashman experience into consideration if you ever decide to purchase a Erebuni kit. I'm sure he will post about this soon so you know what i am talking about.

ok, let me start by saying, that I myself do not have a problem with the erebuni kit, it looks fantastic.

Now on the oposing side, here is what you must know before you decide to purchase one.

1. Fiberglass
2. Weak mounts (these need to be reinforced heavily)
3. Extensive modification to the car to make them fit (I.E. Removing bumper supports)
4. Having to add and fill fiberglass on the bumper itself to make it fit properly.
5. Lots of prep work just to paint them even though they say they are ready for paint, that is total B.S.

So you want to here more I assume, here is how it goes.

My car got hit in a parking lot while I was playing golf. the guy was caught by several witnesses, and I was called back to the club house to get the guy's information. He was out on the course byt he time I was at the club house.

Now, I had the guy's info, but that would have been his word against mine even with witnesses and a pain, so what did I do? Simple, I called the police and reported a hit and run, because that is what happened, he hit my car and then went and parked on the other side of the parking lot, but he got caught by several witnesses.

So the police come, the guy gets pulled off the golf course, and denies it, the cop tells him we have winesses, and that there is black paint on his bumper right at the height my car's damage is, the guy admits it, the cop gives me allt he guys info, and I am on my way.

So his insurance company calls me and tries to low ball me on the repair, its not a cheap fix the rear bumper is cracked and the rear quarter panel is all bent in. so they finally cough up $1500.00 to repair the car. and I just happen to notice that I can get the erebuni kit for $800.00 and can pick it up locally.

Well I figure why the hell not, it is the look I am going for and the real AMG kit costs in excess of $3000.00. So I have the erebunit kit in hand. it looks great, and I can see that I can do some things to it to make it different.

I start by cutting out the back of the fog light indents (mistake on my part, I should have left it alone, but I had other plans besides just putting fogs in there... I.E. Brake cooling ducts. I also cut the slats in the front out completely, because I want mesh there instead. looks better if you ask me.

Now the fun part. I have $700.00 left over, and I negotiate with the bodyshop to fix the dent in the car and paint and install the kit for me. I am so very happy. I am on my way home to pick up the kit and drop my car off at the shop, and all of a sudden, BAM! I am rear ended at 45 mph! so the little dent in the rear is now my trunk pushed in 2 feet.

So now I get the car to the bodyshop, and they replace the whole rear of the car, and while they are at it the kit is installed finally.

The result, car looks fantastic. THe good, looks great, and I love how it looks..

The bad. the fiberglass is delicate. someone bumps into you while parking can crack it or the mounts. also if the car is lowered, you can, and I have pulled the bumper off the front of the car. I have done that 3 times so far, and each time I have had to reglass the mounts back on the car.

So, would I do it again, probably if money was an issue and I wanted the look, but would I rather have the real kit that is for sure. but we take the hand we are dealt and we go with it.

Now one last bit of information for you.... The fact that the car has no bumper supports (meaning no bumper shocks too), means if I get in an accident, the car will get a whole hell of a lot more damage now than with the original bumpers.

SO... The decision is in your hands now. I ahve said what I have to say.

It's sure a lot cheaper than buying directly from erebuni. But fiberglass is the issue there. Remember in the early days of the "import scene" when everyone had their kits and they would eventually crack them or run over tire shreds on the freeway. Just picture yourself having to deal w/ that.

lots of cars
The only problem with fiberglass is fitment and the front bumper....you can get away with side skirts and the rear bumper....now to find a non-fiberglass front bumper that will match the kit?.....im making my kit with urathane and fiberglass but just for cosmetic purposes...it will bend and be able to hit anything without cracking....

THE W124 KITS from carlsson are fiberglass. I believe the lorinser kits are too.

There isn't really anythign wrong with fiberglass, but you just have to be more carful witht hem.

I cringe everytme I hear a scrape etc, because I wonder if that will be the scrape or small knock that does the bumper in.

The main porblem with the fiberglass parts is that when the big Co. lay up parts, the usually lay up a lot at once which causes the mold to warp; & everytime the mold is layed up right after another, the part warps more & more etc.... The best way is to get the kit, fit it on the car the way you want it & repar where ever there are warps or anything that looks funny. & usually It would be a better Idea to bulk up where the monts & leave the bottom lip soft or with less plys of FG so when scraping the floor it flexs & doesn't send the impact through the bumper damaging the entire thing.
