head unit w/ bluetooth

For those interested in a Bluetooth setup, as an alternative you could consider buying a new stereo head unit with Bluetooth support (and keep your ashtray empty). Checkout the new Alpine CDA-9857, it has an optional Bluetooth module. Integrated iPod connector is nice too. I haven't bought it yet, I'm just reading up on the specs.

Yeah, I seriously thought about buying a bluetooth enabled head unit. Going that route would have been much easier, I just don't like the look of aftermarket head units.

I would like to see someone install a bluetooth head unit though, I think they are a great idea, just not for someone who doesn't want to change the look of the stock unit.

By the way, I didn't originally have the control pad in the ashtray. I fits perfectly on the side of the center console box with the wooden top. Right were the box meets the lower part of the console is great because the wire fits right between the two half's. The were pros and cons to this location. Pros: it was easy to install there; was within easy reach; look fairly good; was out of sight from others in the car.

Cons: at night it was a bit bright; others in the car couldn't see it, they were always leaning over to see what buttons I was pushing.

I started the how to write up last night at about 2am, and was half way through it when I got up to make some popcorn. When I came back all the programs and IE windows that I had open were gone. It was as if the computer had restarted, but if that were the case I would had to have logged back on; very strange! I will attempt to write it again tonight.

That sucks! I hate when that happens. Thanks for the effort. Anytime you have a chance to rewrite it up is much appreciated. Cheers, Jon

I haven't forgotten, just been busy with the purchase of my first house. I have been so drained from all the paperwork and stress that goes along with this process that I haven't had the drive to "tinker" with my Benz. I do have all the pictures taken, i just have to sit down and right it up.

Sorry for the delay, it will get done...

props for all the mods. I am a bit OCD too when it comes to installing things in my car. Can't wait to see the write up for your mods. When you get to that could you mention where and how much you got the different units like the one touch windows or the automatic light system I am very tempted by the one touch windows that interfaces with the keyless entry. Also a tutorial on the locking system that locks the doors after car starts rolling would be greatly appreciated. Then again when you get to it, thanks.

My keyless entry with flip key install write up is here

http://500e.2phast.com

This combined with the information located at mercedesshop.com in the DIY section, should be usefull for anyone considering the install.
