I think that you are almost right, but lets compare: An actual motor equivalent to the 320 that W124 uses is the 320 the actual G-class uses. So comparing the W124 gets 220 bhp at 5500 rpm, the one of the G is 215 hp at5600; up to here the only difference is 5 more cv in 100 rpm less. Then comparing torque we have got 310 N/m in the W124 and 300 in the G-class, 10 n/m with the same cm3?? here there is a difference that says something to me. And then I know that actual motors arent made with the top quality components mercedes were used to put in their cars ¡¡¡
So I defend my position that the 320 W124 motor is best than actual, and the thing that finally makes me decide is the W124 320 engine sound, have u heard it? its astonishing cute ¡¡ and strong ¡¡¡.
But apart from this what would you change in the engine to let it as if new ??

Thanks very much
Payson
And remember W124 the best car ever¡¡¡ jejeje xDDDD
please reply to my question

Help ¡¡¡¡

Hey guys with all this discussion about Mercedes and all this, no one gave me a definitive answer apart from changing to C36 AMG engine, which I decline.
Any one who understand about mechanics, to share opinion about which components renewed make the engine work much better?¿

Thanks

There are no gains with these motors. They are built at their peak and there is not much else you can do. You can purchase headers, which I saw on ebay a while ago or have some custom made, good luck! And put in a K&N filter. OF course the increase will be minimal but there will be an increase. The rest of the upgrades will be very very costly and the only worth it is swapping engines.
