300te oil pressure problems

I have two different opinions as to oil pressure. The oil pressure gauge will not register beyond 1.5 bar. at idle it is 1.2-1.3 in gear. One machanic says that there is oil flowing to the top of the engine and changed out several sensors with no help. Another mechanic says I have low oil pressure and want to change out the engine as a rebuild will cost much more. The car starts and runs fine, but i have not had it on the road for fear of greater damage. I am thinking that the only way to really find out is to either change engines or take the old one out and look at the cam bearings

Any suggestions

When oil pressure is the issue you need to look at 3 things. 1) Faulty oil pump 2) Oil related sensors 3) Crank bearings. If you're sure you've eliminated the first two as the problem then you may want to expect the worst.

is a German Tank
I have owned my TE for 2 years and I've had the same thing.

My cars runs AMAZING, gets great gas mileage and has never left me stranded, well once but that was my fault...

So its either spend 65 bux that I could care less about for an oil sender, or save the 65 bux for gas

you could just be using the wrong viscosity oil for all we know.

mercedes benz trait

A trait of ALL mb engines is the oil pressure gauge pegging on startup. They are built to tight tolerances and hence always have full oil pressure. After the oil warms the pressure drops a bit at idle. First make sure you are using the correct oil range. A faulty gauge is probably rare but who knows. Have the mechanic put a shop gauge on the oil sender and see what the reading is. If it is truly low then go to the oil pump. Hold on to your wallet if the pump is good. Crank bearings are the first place oil heads to after leaving the pump. This is where the pressure builds. Let us know what you find out.
