In the market

It would appear that we're finally going to rid ourselves of our Nissan pickup. Our joyful experience as M-B owners with our ML430 has convinced us to look into another Benz as our second car. After a lot of looking, we decided that getting something used in the $5k to $9k range would be good for now. I noticed quite a few really nice 300E's in my area. A place right around the corner has a dark blue/tan 1990 300E 3.0 sedan for just under $5k. One owner, 109k miles, shiny paint, almost perfect interior. Only flaw I could find is a wear area on the left lobe of the driver's seatback where one might rub whist entering and exiting. It's only about the size of a playing card, no biggie to me. Looks as if it was definitely garage kept. What I'd like to know from you 124 guys is:

1) Are there any common things for which I should check when I go to test drive it?

2) Any reason not to own such an automobile?

3) Does this sound like a fair deal?

I only need the car to last 2 or 3 years, about another 60k miles or so. I've given it as good a looksie I can without the dealership open, and I plan to revisit it while they are open so I can inspect it more closely. I do my own maintenance and service, so the only concern is parts availability in that department.

I've found this board to be very helpful in the past relating to our ML, and I'm sure y'all will be just as helpful in this particular forum. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The straight six in the 300E is pretty amazing. The car in general should make it to at least 250,000 before you need to start overhauling bits and pieces. The parts are easily sourced should you need to replace anything.
