Purchasing '94 E320, Any Advice?

I am looking at purchasing a 1994 E320 with 74k miles on it.
Is there any common problems I should be aware of?
Also what should I pay close attention to?

Thanks!

08 Lexus GS350 AWD. 08 Lexus RX350 AWD - wife's. 94 MBZ E320 - still have it.
Engine wiring harness (insulaton desintegtates), OVP relay (engine wouldn't start and no fault codes stored on the computer), Leaky head gasket (oil leaks out), climate control push-button unit.

I have '94 E320 with 130 K miles. Engine harnes was replaced before i got the car in 1999, the OVP relay was replaced (dealer-$200), head gasket was replaced by me (parts $400, including $200 to a machine shop for "shaving" the head and about 12 hrs of my labor), the climate control still works fine.

The Straight Six will need the headgasket job and any MB released 93 to 95 will require a new wiring harness. Course the previous owner could have covered both. If not just leverage that when you negotiate the final price.

How hard was the head gasket to replace?

you really have to know what you're doing to replace the head gasket. I wouldn't attempt it unless you are a decent mechanic.

Well, while replacing the head gasket is not a brain surgery, you still have to know what you are doing. If you've never done one before on any engine - don't try. I've done few head gakets before, but not on Mercedes, so it was somewhat new for me.

Definitely don't change your own head gasket if you're not familiar with the job.

Get the car checked by an MB specialist (avoid getting dealer the do the inspection). They're good car for the most part. Dont be discouraged from buying it because of the above mentioned problems.

1994 E320
the a/c evaporator is also a known problem area- buried in the dash and big money to repair. I have had my 94 e320 for not quite a year, and have done all of the above mentioned work, save for the a/c evap- hoping it was either done, or will last a bit longer!

Here's the update guys!
After I begin to mention a few of these things, I haven't heard of him since.

So I found a 1991 190e with 50k miles, never driven in the winter, cars looks like it just rolled out of the factory. Amazing condition.
Looks brand new, everything about it is perfect.
So of course I couldn't resist such a rare find and bought it.

from a potential last of the 124 e320's, to a 190e?! I guess performance wasnt really a priority! I love my 94 e320 to bits. If i had to pick between a 124 and a 211, if power wasnt an issue it'd definitly be the 124. I love my 211 e55, but damn i miss that coach built feel! The 211 could easily be japanese looking at the interior! E60 124 would be my ultimate merc.

Mercs definitly used to be more special.

No I didn't care about performance, I have other cars for that
This I just wanted for a daily driver.
I'll post pics up when I get a chance, the car looks like it was never driven.
