Resetting the ECM - Shortcut?
Is there a way to reset or "flash" the ECM (engine computer) without the diagnostic tool,or whatever it is my mechanic uses?

My understanding is that you just unplug the positive terminal of the battery for at least 30 minutes. That got my check engine light to turn off when I did it. I'm not sure if that is what you're asking though.

It's also my understanding that disconnecting the battery will reset the ECU. I usually do this after doing work on the ignition like new sparkplugs or cables etc. You can really notice the ECU is self-learning cuz after a reset the cars' trans is almost as nervous in "E" as is is in "S" and after a while it settles down to your normal more relaxed driving style...

My 230E had that and i always had in in E, In S i raced the ***** out that 4cyl engine...I loved that car but because i live in california it was impossible to get it smogged, i had to find and pay a "premium" to get it passed...I eventually took most of the parts off and put them on a 190e and the rest on another 300e..
