Are both M103 engines, is one more reliable than the other, do they have the same issues, and is 2.6 a lot less powerful?

I may not fully understand your question... but my w124 is a 300E period and not the 300E 2.6. and the only difference I know of the 2 is mine is a 3.0Liter engine, as the 300E 2.6 is a 2.6 Liter engine. Obviously, the 3.0L is going to have more power, but I have heard the 2.6L gets better gas mileage.

Bore and stoke are different.
camshaft are different,
Fuel injection system have different settings/calibration,
Transmission are not the same,
rear-end ratio are not the same,
This is only a few of the differences.
