EGR Replacement
How hard it is to replace EGR valve on E320 1995. I have fault code # 5. How expensive is it for part? My mechanic wants $200 to do the job. He will not replce part but wuold rather clean EGR and clean pipe attached to it. I feel it should be replace. Help?

I side with the mechanic. This is a common problem. The Code 5 usually results from deposits blocking the egr tube. The blockage is mainly at the few inches where it joins the throttle body. That's where the vapors condense.
It sounds like you have a good mechanic who isn't needlessly changing parts.

Engine Light - Code 5, port 3
I had this code show up on my 1995 E320 (w-124). Research on this and other forums suggested it was most likely a clogged EGR tube. This indeed was the case.
Remove the tube to clean is quite easy if the throttle body is removed first. Here is a helpful link for this project taking roughly 10-15 minutes: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w124...ttle-body.html.
Once this is off, remove the EGR tube:
1) disconnect the nut at the EGR valve (17 mm open end wrench, I think)
2) detach the small hanger attached to the oil filter housing (5mm alan nut with long extension on ratchet)
3) disconnect tube from plenum - the portion of the intake upon which the throttle body sits (two 10 mm hex bolts)
I was unable to remove the tube from the engine compartment because it was stuck in the EGR tube. Fortunately, with the throttle body off, I could move it around enough to stick a small flat head screw driver into the tube and scrape out the carbon deposits. Lots of chunks came out and this was sufficient to fully unclog the tube without going through the trouble of soaking it with chemicals or trying to ram a speedometer cable through it.
Replace gaskets for both the throttle body and the EGR tube.
This resolved the engine light and code issue.

Out Of Control!!
Nice job, however why not provide more diagnostic advice(more detail), because there are no doubt loads of forum folks that havent got the FF idea what you mean by-----Code 5, port 3

For egr system problems. I decided not to make easy money to my mechanics, but ordered a egr valve emulator from web. I got it and instal manualy, works perfect. Recomendet to all. For me there was fully mechanical egr, meulator linked: http://ces24.com/egr-emulator/11-ope...-emulator.html
But in this site is a lot more, cheap price and extra quality.
