Newest w124 Owner

You are now looking at the proud new owner of a w124 300te.

Here's the specs...

1992 300te
White on Grey Exterior
Brown Leather Interior
~170,000 Miles

Near perfect inside and out. Runs great! Had my wife driving home behind me in the w211 and she was having a heck of a time keeping up with me on the freeway.

Owner had all the records from good ol' grandpappy who was the original owner since '92. I'll have to go through them to see what has been done but it looks like they did quite a bit of work back in '03 at about 140k miles. Hopefully they got all of the major stuff out of the way but we'll see.

Okay, now I need your guys help on some mods. I definitely need the clear/euro-style lights. Gonna tint the windows first chance I get. Also want to look for some nice classy MB tuner rims in maybe a 17" or 18" application. Anyone have advice on debadging this bad-boy?

Alright, looking forward to becoming a regular on this forum as I already am on the w211 forum.

Here's a few pics, I can post more but I'm sure you all have seen enough stock w124's...

ah yes yes another w124 wagon, welcome aboard! And a fine choice you've made there! Fine looking wagon!

If you have any issues or concerns regarding your wagon please feel free to ask me, I have had mine for four years and know the ol' gurl pretty good.

for only a little bit more you could have euros. try a seller named katmac on eBay. but ask 10 people here and you'll get 10 different opinions. the ones you're looking at were my second choice.

And, welcome to the w124 family - we are the coolest.

Whatever you do make sure you're prepared to install these lights as they are NOT pug and play. The US 4-pin connectors will NOT work with these, so you need to buy 6-pin Euro connectors in order to make any of these aftermarket lights work properly.

Trust me, I know from experience

Where do you buy the connector from? Is it really a lot of work or is it do-able? I am pretty handy but I don't want to spend all weekend on it and end up being frustrated!

instalation is pretty easy, you need the diagram to know where the wires go as that is about the hardest part...I'll link you to the page where Natural and I go back and forth on (I WAS FRUSTRATED!)

as for the connectors...
1. Dealerships (ask for a tail light connector -driver side I think- as this connector has 6 pins,, it's basically the euro connector *I do not know the part number*)
2. Ebay - they pop out every-now-and-then
3. Call rusty at buymbparts.com and ask him for a euro light install kit.

Actually, I have those exact lights on my car and I purchased them directly from his website. katmac.com I am not sure if he still has them available but switching connectors was very easy. The lights came with instructions, those of which I still have. If you like them, they are a piece of cake to put on, someone else with a silver w124 has them on the board...hopefully he can second my opinion. I can send you a copy of instructions if you choose to buy the lights and yours dont come with instructions.

I would go with standard Euros for this one. And go through Katmac. He sells TYC brand, which you want, the Depo brand are the shiznit, and I mean that in the bad way My first set of euros I got from Katmac and they were fine for being cheap asian knockoffs, but the Depos I have now are so bad I am going to take the lenses off of them and use the buckets from a set of cracked factory lights I have from a 95.

IMO these crystals don't look right ont the pre 94 grilles because of the gap.

Well, in my experience, the Depos has lower quality beam pattern, lower quality construction IE plastic molds/and metal clips... That may just be me though

BTW Samoan-R. Those MBTEX seats will be great for clean up with kids, far more abrasion resistant than leather.

Now you guys got me confused. I was all set on the "ultra-clear" look but now I'm debating if they'll go well with the "classic" look of the '92. The last thing I want to do is make it look like a cheesy ricer Benz. I want to keep the classy look but just freshen it up a bit.

On Katmac.com they go for $249

I got mine from an auction of his and got them for $192

Katmac gives you the euro connectors and everything.

These lights even have the 5w city lights and the vacuum diaphragm if you ever want to hook up the adjustable feature.

Awesome beam pattern, too. Just ditch the main h4 bulbs that he includes and get some silverstars or piaa bulbs.

I am not going to try and persaude you to go to your original plan but go to the picture post, page 11, post number 509....the gap is not really that big, its the design of the headlamp....I will try and take some pics of the headlamps so you can see what I am talking about. I think they look very nice and refreshed on a white w124...BTW, I have a '93 w124. I went through katmac because I also bought the crystal tailamps.

ok....so maybe I tried to persuade you just a little bit

Your pictures were exactly what I was looking for! Same design and color with the lights I was looking to order. It's funny because about 30 minutes before I read your post I placed the order for those lights! Good thing too because if I had gone with the Euros and then seen your pics I would have kicked myself!

I love both styles but I just kept thinking back to when I had my CLK and how much a difference it made with my xenons as opposed to the ones without them. I truly despised the non-xenon CLK lights on the w208 because they were not clear.

As for the w124, I think anything is an upgrade to the original lights on the 88-93 MY's. Those things make the lights on a bangle-ized e60 look like God's gift to the automotive world! As good as the translucent euros look on everyone's cars, I just wouldn't have been satisfied seeing pictures of your ride on here with that crystal clear glass. At least they aren't trying to be something they're not like HID's or w210/w211 ovals. They are just nice and simple halogens with crystal clear lenses (the way they should all have been from the start).

I am glad we all don't have the exact same headlights. It's good to have variety. I think each one has something about it that makes it look hott on the car they're on.

God bless America!
