Timing Chain, How loose is too loose?

When I put a new valve cover gasket on my m103, I noticed that the timing chain was loose, it has 130k on it. There was say,1/8 to 3/8's play. Is that too much to drive on?

I had heard that you can reset the timing chain tensioner which I can do. I would change my chain right away, but being back at school, I don't have anyone to help hold the chain when I guide it through with the old one. I would hate to take it to a shop since I can do the work myself.

Yes, very insightful Brett.

I tried to look up tolerances for the timing chain for the m103 engine, but there are no instructions for "checking" the timing chain, only replacing it.

Well, I am riding my bike a lot these days and only driving once a week to the store, so I guess I'll be fine till Thanksgiving. I don't rev it and hot wheel it around town so I should be fine.
