Blower fuse

Does anyone have any thoughts or have they had the same problem. I originally thought that my blower motor was gone; but after getting to it and testing it the motor is fine. So on inspecting the 30A external fuse closer I noticed that it was blown. So a quick test with a jumper gave me plenty of air movement in the car. But then my thought was, what has caused the fuse to blow? I then checked with a voltmeter across the fuse point with the motor disconnected and I have approx 11 V there; this usually indictes a electrical short in the circuit. Does anyone have any idea as to typical locations for this short; or do I just start tracing wires?

Thanks in advance.

They sell this at mercedessource.com:

124, 126, and 201 Fuse Kit Upgrade
Item # ELT-COMFKU124
FITS THE FOLLOWING 124, 126, and 201 chassis.

Have you been having electrical problems in your older Mercedes? Maybe you have taken the fuse box cover off and wiggled a few fuses and it has solved the problem for a while. You probably noticed corossion on the tips of the old aluminum fuses. Who ever designed these old fuses did not get a good education in dissimilar metal corrosion. You do not put aluminum up next to copper - add in moisture and heat and expect to not have corrosion problems. I have round a source of brass/copper alloy high quality fuses that do not corrode in the fuse holders. We are changing out all the old alumium fuses in all our customers Mercedes and replacing them with this new type. No more intermittent or weird electical gremlins!! Give your fuse box a good cleaning and install these fuses for peace of mind. Kit includes 30 of the 8 amp, 10 of the 16 amp and 10 of the 25 amp. There are plenty for spares (enough to do two fuse boxes). Check your fuse box condition out today!

Now comes with complete detailed picture instructions for easy installation.

It could just be your fuses, rather than an actual short in the wiring.
Look for it under w124 chassis, body electrical.

I bought this fuse upgrade kit from mercedessource. Great people to deal with, fast & friendly service, plus I like supporting small businesses. It just doesn't make sense to have the copper fuse holders contacting aluminum fuses - galvanic corrosion due to dissimilar metals (which is why the Acura NSX uses special insulated bolts to hold the aluminum body panels wherever it is bolted to steel). When I changed the fuses to copper ones I also cleaned all the contact points with deoxit cleaner & preserver (www.deoxit.com)

Thanks

It was the external strip fuse that was blown. The motor was fine. I replaced all of the fuses in the box with new ones, since they all looked pretty oxidized. All of the electricals are working fine, now i just need to get the transmission shifting smooth.

I had the same problem

First hot day of this summer my blower motor quit. I thought it was crapped out, took it to the shop near my house and the mechanic checked the 30 Amp blower fuse and sure enough it was blown. He replaced it for free. I have not had any problems since, blower has worked fine since then, even in very hot virginia summer. I wondered what caused it to blow originally, but the problem has not surfaced again, yet.

Negative, the fuse box legend reads as follows:

"Blower fuse located OUTSIDE fuse box"
