SRS Module Replacement
The SRS light recently illuminated and hasn't turned off. Being the attentive person I am, I took it into the shop to see why exactly it had sprung on. The techs said the SRS Module has failed and needs replacing. The estimate was for $1000 said and done. A hefty price. I'm curious about going about replacing this myself, is this possible? Where could I located the parts if so? Mercedesshop doesn't show anything relating to this.
Any experience in this field? Thanks!

I bought my '94 E320 rear-ended and re-built it. The airbags were not deployed but the SRS module was messed up. Dealer quoted me $1100. I found a used module from Foster Auto Parts in Portland for $200 from a fire-damaged car. Eight years later it still works fine.

Edit: Also, how did you go about the replacement? Was it a hard task?

No parts number, they know what the SRS module is. If you find one in Portland area (try other junk yards if Foster doesn't have it), take your old module out, drive your car there, and plug the "new" module in before you pay for it, to make sure that the SRS light goes off. That's what I did. As far as replacing it, look at the instructions above, it's not dirfficult.
